Faster, simpler payments

The New Payments Platform (NPP) is a new industry standard for making real time payments. It allows you to quickly make and receive data rich payments between eligible accounts via Osko. It means you will be able to instantly send and receive money, with additional information about the transaction, to/from anyone registered with Osko. This can be any day and any time.

There are three main benefits of the NPP:

  1. Real time payments (via Osko)
  2. Making and receive payments using a PayID
  3. Providing extra information in your transaction (up to 280 characters of text)

Real Time payments via Osko

Osko by BPAY® is a secure payment service that allows you to send and receive real-time payments. Osko uses the capabilities of the NPP including PayID.

Osko® offers faster payments, in most cases under a minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When making a Pay Anyone payment, you will now see the option to pay via Osko. If both the sending and receiving accounts are Osko enabled, the payment can be made in real-time between participating banks throughout Australia.

You can send a payment via Osko by either using the recipients BSB and Account Number or via a new method of payment referred to as a PayID.

What is a PayID?

PayIDs allow you to use an easy to remember piece of information, such as your mobile number, email address or ABN to receive payments to a linked bank account. The benefits of using a PayID are:

  • All you need is a mobile number, email address or ABN to receive payments, instead of your BSB and Account Number
  • You don’t need to remember or give out your account details to receive money
  • Payments are safe and secure
  • It’s simple to set up – just a few clicks and you’re ready to go

Include extra information in your transaction (up to 280 characters of text)

The introduction of the NPP also allows you to send a more detailed description with the payment (up to 280 characters). For example, if you want to include extra information, such as the invoice number and the items that were ordered, you can easily do this.

These additional characters will appear within your Internet Banking and the recipients Internet Banking. Only the first 18 characters of the transaction will appear on your statement and all the details may not appear on the recipient's bank statement, depending on their bank.

Osko and PayID industry release timelines

Each Financial Institution has its own timeline for releasing Osko and PayID services. Rural Bank provides both Osko and PayID, however, the person you are paying or receiving a payment from may not yet be connected through their financial institution.
