Summary of key issues:

  • For the week ending 26 October 2016, rainfall was recorded mainly across parts of eastern, southern and northern Australia.
  • For the week ending 25 October 2016, maximum and minimum temperatures were generally below average across much of central and eastern Australia.
  • The latest ‘National Climate Outlook’ released by the Bureau of Meteorology indicates that wetter than average conditions are more likely for much of Western Australia for the period November 2016 to January 2017.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) increased by 355 gigalitres (GL) during the week ending 27 October 2016.
  • The mutton indicator price (18-24 kg fat score 2-3, Victoria) fell to 377 cents a kilogram, a decrease of 10 per cent compared with the previous week.
