We have been made aware of a phone scam that appears to be targeting older people.
The scam begins when a customer receives a call about “a letter from the Prime Minister regarding pension payments” and is encouraged to provide information, including their banking details and other personal details, to the caller.
This information is then used by the scammer to initiate payments from the customer’s financial institution via telephone, using the information collected to satisfy the financial institution’s telephone identification procedures.
Please be aware that Rural Bank believes that any such request would be fraudulent. Should you receive such contact, you should not provide any account details or personal information to the caller.
Rural Bank is committed to raising awareness about security of personal information.
