This week’s focus will clearly be on Tuesday night’s federal budget. With the budget expected to return to a surplus, this pre-election budget will likely prove to be a sweet one for voters. With receipts coming in faster than expected, the Government looks likely to bring forward some of last year’s budget-promised income tax cuts and announce some pretty attractive spending initiatives to win over voters. Pundits are betting that an election will be called next week for either the 4th or 11th May.
In reality though, will anything that is announced by the Coalition government be meaningful? After all, any changes announced could be quickly undone by the Labour party, which looks likely to win the upcoming election.
