We have been made aware of a phone scam that appears to be targeting older people.

The scam begins when a customer receives a call from a scammer purporting to be a staff member from Rolex Watch Company in Melbourne. The callerclaims a person has visited their store and attempted to purchase a watch with a fraudulent bank card in the customer’s name.

The caller then advises them to contact the Fraud Investigation Bureau, and the caller provides details for an overseas account and advises them to transfer funds to that account. The caller has also suggested they withdraw all funds from their accounts and keep the funds in a safe place.

Please be aware that Rural Bank believes that any such phone call would be fraudulent. Should you receive such contact, you should not provide any account details or personal information to the caller, and you should not initiate a transfer of funds to the account provided.

Rural Bank is committed to raising awareness about security of personal information. Visit our Security page for more information.
