Summary of key issues: 
  • Much of the New South Wales south coast has recorded rainfall in excess of 50mm over the past week, with the Illawarra region recording over 200mm. 
  • Some crops in the Geraldton region of Western Australia are starting to show signs of moisture stress. Parts of the northern wheat belt in the state are on track to record their second driest June in history. 
  • Cropping regions of western Victoria have received useful follow-up rainfall this week which is likely to benefit the germination and growth of crops and pastures.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin have increased by 214 gigalitres this week and are at 70 per cent of total capacity.
  • The world wheat indicator price (US No. 2 hard red winter, free on board Gulf ports) averaged US$321 a tonne in the week ending 25 June 2013, compared with US$318 in the previous week,
  • Australian milk production was 2.7 per cent lower in the first eleven months of 2012-13 compared with the same period in 2011-12.
  • Saleyard prices of lamb were higher in all states in the week ending 21 June 2013 with Victoria recording the largest percentage increase of 9 per cent to 496 cents a kilogram.
  • The Queensland young cattle indicator price (330 – 400 kg live weight C3) fell by 6 per cent in the week ending 21 June 2013 to 284 cents a kilogram. In New South Wales and Victoria, young cattle prices rose by 7 per cent and 3 per cent to 359 cents a kilogram and 356 cents a kilogram, respectively.
  • The Australian Eastern Market Indicator price for wool was 1066 cents a kilogram clean in the week ending 20 June 2013.
