Summary of key issues:

  • During the week ending 30 September 2015, rainfall was mainly restricted to the east coast of Aust., Tas, the Top End of the NT and in isolated areas of north central QLD and south-west Western Aust.
  • Maximum temperatures were above average across much of Western Australia and parts of south-east Australia during the week ending 29 September 2015.
  • September 2015 rainfall was generally well below average to average across large parts of western, central and eastern Aust, with extremely deficient rainfall in south-east and southwest Aust and Tas.
  • The forecast for the next eight days indicates that rainfall in excess of 15 millimetres is likely in far south-west Western Aust, the Top End of NT, coastal north QLD and western Tas.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) decreased during the week ending 1 October 2015.
  • In New South Wales, general security allocations increased in the Murray Valley catchment.
  • The world wheat indicator price (US No. 2 hard red winter, free on board Gulf ports) averaged US$223 a tonne in the week ending 29 September 2015.
  • The young cattle indictor price (330–400 kg live weight C3) averaged 538 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in Queensland in the week ending 25 September 2015.
  • The lamb indicator price (18–22kg fat score 2–4) averaged 518 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in Victoria in the week ending 25 September 2015.
