Summary of key issues:

  • During the week ending 15 July 2015, most rainfall was recorded in southern Australia with rainfall in excess of 25 mm falling in some regions.
  • A major cold front during the past week has resulted in snow fall and strong cold winds across parts of central and western New South Wales.
  • Maximum and minimum temperatures were around average over much of Australia during the week ending 14 July 2015.
  • The forecast for the next eight days indicates that rainfall in excess of 25 millimetres is most likely in central and south west Western Australia.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) increased this week by 128 gigalitres (GL) and are at 42 per cent of total capacity.
  • The world wheat indicator price (US No. 2 hard red winter, free on board Gulf ports) averaged US$249 a tonne in the week ending 14 July 2015.
  • The Australian grain sorghum indicator price (Sydney) was $348 a tonne in the week ending 15 July 2015.
  • The Queensland young cattle indicator price (330–400 kg live weight C3) averaged 477 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in the week ending 10 July 2015.
  • The lamb indicator price (18–22kg fat score 2–4, Victoria) fell by 3 per cent to average 396 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in the week ending 10 July 2015.
