Summary of key issues:

  • Rainfall was recorded across large areas of northern, central and eastern Australia.
  • Northern Australia's wet season has started to deliver much needed rains to the far north of the Northern Territory and Queensland.
  • Maximum temperatures in parts of eastern Australia reached between 8 and 10 degrees above the November average during the week ending 25 November 2014.
  • The December rainfall outlook suggests that drier than average conditions are more likely over much of the northern half of Australia and along east coast of New South Wales.
  • The rainfall outlook for the period December 2014 to February 2015 indicates that it is more likely to be drier than average across much of northern, central and eastern Australia.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) decreased this week by 219 gigalitres (GL) and are at 58 per cent of total capacity.
  • The world wheat indicator price (US No. 2 hard red winter, free on board Gulf ports) averaged US$278 a tonne in the week ending 25 November 2014.
  • The Australian grain sorghum indicator price (Sydney) was $328 a tonne in the week ending 26 November 2014, around 1 per cent higher than the previous week.
  • The Queensland young cattle indicator price (330–400 kg live weight C3) averaged 345 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in the week ending 21 November 2014.
  • Changes in the saleyard indicator price of lamb (18–22kg fat score 2–4) were mixed across the states in the week ending 21 November 2014.
