  • During the week ending 31 August 2016, rainfall was recorded in much of eastern, central and western Australia.
  • Maximum and minimum temperatures were close to average across much of Australia for the week ending 30 August 2016.
  • Relative upper and lower layer soil moisture for August 2016 was generally well above average across much of Australia.
  • The forecast for the next eight days indicates that rainfall is expected across much of central and eastern Australia.
  • The chance of an early northern rainfall onset this year is high for the tropical far north of Australia.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) increased by 671 gigalitres (GL) during the week ending 1 September 2016.
