Summary of key issues:

  • During the week ending 18 February 2015 rainfall was mainly restricted to northern and eastern Australia.
  • Tropical Pacific Ocean El Niño Southern Oscillation indicators remain within the neutral range.
  • Severe Tropical Cyclone Lam is currently impacting the northern Wessel Islands and is expected to turn towards Nhulunbuy on Today, 19 February 2015.
  • Tropical Cyclone Marcia has been moving through the Coral Sea towards the Queensland coast in a south-westerly direction.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) decreased this week by 176 gigalitres (GL) and are at 46 per cent of total capacity.
  • The world wheat indicator price (US No. 2 hard red winter, free on board Gulf ports) averaged US$255 a tonne in the week ending 17 February 2015.
  • The Australian grain sorghum indicator price (Sydney) was $310 a tonne in the week ending 18 February 2015, 1 per cent higher than the previous week.
  • The Queensland young cattle indictor price (330–400 kg live weight C3) averaged 463 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in the week ending 13 February 2015.
  • The saleyard indicator price of lamb (18–22kg fat score 2–4) was lower in most states in the week ending 13 February 2015.
