Summary of key issues:

  • During the week ending 8 April 2015 rainfall was mainly recorded across western, northern and eastern Australia.
  • Minimum temperatures were above average over much of Australia during the week ending 7 April 2015.
  • Relative upper layer soil moisture for March 2015 was mostly above average across Western Australia and below average over much of the remainder of the country.
  • During the week ending 15 April 2015 rainfall was mainly recorded across southern Western Australia, northern and south eastern Australia.
  • Maximum temperatures were predominantly average across much of the country.
  • According to the Australian Plague Locust Commission, a widespread, medium to high density adult locust population persisted in several regions of Queensland and New South Wales during March 2015.
  • The forecast for the next eight days indicates that rainfall is likely in parts of Western Australia and south east Australia.
  • The Bureau of Meteorology has indicated that the chances of El Niño occurring in 2015 have increased.
  • Water storage levels in the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) decreased this week by 91 gigalitres (GL) and are at 39 per cent of total capacity.
  • The world wheat indicator price (US No. 2 hard red winter, free on board Gulf ports) averaged US$246 a tonne in the week ending 14 April 2015.
  • The Australian grain sorghum indicator price (Sydney) was $325 a tonne in the week ending 15 April 2015.
  • The Queensland young cattle indicator price (330–400 kg live weight C3) averaged 444 cents a kilogram (dressed weight) in the week ending 10 April 2015.
  • The saleyard indicator prices of lamb (18–22kg fat score 2–4) rose across all states in the week ending 10 April 2015.
