Why I chose Rural Bank

During my final year of studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management, I just knew that I wanted to kick start my career in the banking sector. My vision was to start in a financial position to gain initial financial knowledge and guidance to further my opportunities into the future.

After seeing advertisements online regarding this graduate program, I thought I couldn’t lose from giving it a go, even though it was a bank I had no prior connection or knowledge of.

After some more research the most appealing factor about the Rural Bank Graduate Program was its sole focus on agriculture, which I am also extremely passionate about. Also attractive were the program’s flexibility, and rotations which could potentially allow myself to experience all different parts of the business, all with a focus on helping the farmer.

Having seen firsthand how farming families and communities are financially impacted by devastating seasons, I knew I wanted to work within the agriculture industry, more specifically, agribusiness.

The Rural Bank Graduate Program was the most suitable choice for me, as the Bank’s values of being “farmer focused, being specialists in agriculture and growing businesses into the future” align with my own.

The support network and opportunities that the program provides appealed to me as I knew I’d be able to meet and learn from a variety of people within the business to help further my knowledge of banking and agriculture. During my final year of University, I was lucky enough to have known past graduates who had thoroughly enjoyed their experiences with the Bank and had recommended that I apply for the role.

Having spent my whole life around farms and regional communities I have always had a passion for agriculture. This was strengthened through my studies and receiving a Bachelor of Agriculture, during this course I also developed a strong interest in the financial decision making by people in the industry, both on and off-farm.

Combining my already developed understanding of the ag industry and my newfound interest in the financial aspect of it resulted in me looking towards ag banking as a possible career path.

Rural Banks graduate program really appealed to me as it is specifically tailored to the interests of the individuals and has a real focus on personal development. It has been a great learning opportunity as it provides experience throughout different teams within the bank.

I chose the Rural Bank graduate program because while I had grown up on the farm, I didn’t think the traditional farming career was for me. I thought Rural Bank would allow me to use the maths/finance skills I developed at university to find a different career path, while still being involved in the industry I had been a part of my entire life.

Having grown up in a country town, agriculture has always been a large part of my life. I graduated university with a bachelor’s degree in commerce (finance) and when I began looking at graduate positions the Rural Bank Graduate Program stood out.

I was drawn to the program as it enables me to combine my enthusiasm for both agriculture and finance in an agribusiness focused role. Plus, the program offers the opportunity to develop new, and refine existing, skills across several different teams within the bank including credit, sales and operations.

I have always had an interest in science and agriculture, and I had never really given business or finance a second thought. That was until I had to do a finance subject at Uni which was hands down my favourite subject from my whole degree. I was in the midst of completing this subject when I came across Rural Bank’s Graduate Program. I noticed it was a program where I could I use my knowledge and passion for agriculture and combine it with my newfound passion of finance.

After seeing advertisements online regarding this graduate program, I thought what can i lose from giving it a go, even though it was a bank i had no prior connection or knowledge of.

The Rural Bank Graduate Program allows graduates to excel in their passions, to have freedom to explore new areas of the business and provides graduates with the support to do well. In a short space of time I have been exposed to a range of teams within the business, I’ve had many opportunities and the chance to have a say in how my program will unfold. The best thing about Rural Bank’s Graduate Program is that it is tailored to each grad: no grad will have the same program because we all have different goals.

The Rural Bank Graduate Program appealed to me as it provided a great opportunity for myself to explore a range of different departments in the bank. This will allow me to learn and develop a wide range of skills, while also offering a guaranteed job upon completion.

The graduate program also offered me the chance to move to different parts of Australia while early in my career, and as such I believe will allow me to develop great relationships with others involved in the industry.
